STATE AND LOCAL PARKS
Hoover Reservoir, constructed as a water supply facility by the city of Columbus in 1955, is located within Genoa Township and offers boating, fishing and picnicking.
Char-Mar Ridge Preserve, located at 7747 Lewis Center Rd., was purchased in 2000 by the Delaware County Preservations Parks. By donating a significant portion of the purchase price, Joseph Pingue, Jr. enabled the park district to preserve a large area of open space in a rapidly developing area of Delaware County. The original purchase was 113 acres, with an adjoining 15 acres purchased a few years later.The park includes a walking trail and picnic areas.
Alum Creek State Park, located in nearby Orange Township, includes a large reservoir and gently rolling span of fields and woodlands providing a hub of recreational activity. Quiet coves nestled among shale cliffs await the solitary fisherman in the park's northern reaches while sunseekers mingle with thousands on Ohio's largest inland beach. Amenities include boating, camping, picnicking, a public beach, concessions and playground equipment.
Sharon Woods Metro Park, located in the nearby City of Westerville, is a mixture of forests and open fields. You'll see numerous towering oak, hickory and beech trees. Many seasonal pools associated with the swamp forest communities are present and provide critical spring breeding habitat for amphibians and other wildlife. Amenities include playground equipment, trails, nature programs, kids' fishing, natural play area, seniors' fishing, rollerblading, bicycling, picnicking, and sledding.
Millstone Creek Park, located in the nearby City of Westerville at the southwest corner of Maxtown Road and Spring Street, contains a playground, walking paths, play fields, play courts, and a picnic shelter.
